Disabled dogs: go to Chalindrey for information

Animals. The Handi’chiens association educates and provides free assistance dogs to people with disabilities. Everything is based on the volunteering of foster families who educate and feed the puppies for sixteen months. Head to Chalindrey market where a stand makes this commitment known to the general public.

In the last three months, the regulars of the Chalindrey market have been delighted to find a specific stand dedicated to the association of Handi’chiens. “The purpose is to inform the association and why new host families cannot be found”, details Christian. Based in Rosoy-sur-Amance, in southern Haut-Marne, Christian is currently raising a young Golden Retriever. Sherlock watched the interview from the comfort of the booth. The young dog is calm and attentive.

This stall in the busy Chalindrey market was his idea. “I get my bread every week here, at the market, from Laurie who herself is a foster family and brings her dog. Now she has three children and quit because she was too busy. But we can say that he made me want to start and become a foster family »Christian continued.

Fifteen six months with the family

For four years, Christian welcomed and educated young dogs. Ditto for François Guiot, also a host family near Chaumont and also a smoke instructor at the Chaumont-Choignes club. The latter is joined by Shaker, of the same race as Sherlock. “We accept puppies from the age of two months to 18 months”said François Guiot.

Now 14 months old, Shaker will go to a training center on November 6 – for six months – to perfect his education. He will stay there soon for two weeks, to learn the structure, which is a bit like a pre-return. “We taught them about fifty commandments. They are also socialized.summarizes François Guiot.

The operational dogs are then allocated to their beneficiaries, a family or an institute. “The puppies are selected from farms all over France at the age of seven weeks according to their predispositions. They are not too dominant or too reserved and they can be male or female.see Stéphanie and Frédéric, delegates of the referent of the two host families from the South of Haut-Marne, also present in Chalindrey on July 28.

An impending separation

Dogs are directed to beneficiaries based on their abilities and temperament. “Meetings are arranged. Correlations are made and often “they match” »Stephanie joked.

The big day of leaving the young dogs for the training center is approaching. It’s always a good moment, although it’s not always easyating. “Shaker is the second dog I trained. The first one was changed before leaving and so I kept it »slips François Guiot, happy with the help that Shaker, his little protégé, is able to bring to the one that it is dedicated to.

A stand to learn about association activities.

“Beneficiaries give news, at least once a year and then there are extraordinary stories: the host families become relay families and the dogs stay when the beneficiaries go on vacation”add two delegates.

If you want more information or to become a host family, come to Chalindrey market every Thursday morning. The national sponsor of the Handi’chiens association actually comes from this village: it is hosted by the journalist Damien Thévenot. Christian has his fingers crossed that he will come to greet the teams on a Thursday morning. “That’s very good”he concluded.
