Marvel Studios recently released the trailer for “Thor: Love and Thunder”. And as usual, these first images are packed with Easter eggs. Here is a list of all the references to remember in this teaser.
Natalie Portman becomes the latest Thor
This first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder ends with the most important element. Jane Foster, the character played by Natalie Portman in the first two films Thor, it’s back. But his return is not as important as the former scientist would be the new incarnation of Thor. In fact, since Thor: Love and Thunder based on the events of Jason Aaron’s comic, the former companion of Odin’s son became the new owner of Mjolnir, and thus the newest goddess of thunder. This trailer allows us to see our first look at the new hero.
Mjolnir has been reformed
And this first image of the new Thor comes with another revelation: Mjolnir has been reformed. Remember, at Thor: Ragnarok, Hela destroys Thor’s hammer with disconcerting ease. While Thor uses Stormbreaker on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Mjolnir was reorged at this time. It remains to be seen how and by whom. And especially, how did Jane Foster get her hands on this…
Thor’s Magical Goats
Thor 4 introduce two new Asgardian characters to the MCU: Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder. Introduced in the comics in 1976, these two magical goats allow Thor to move through the galaxy at an impressive speed. In the comics, when Thor defeats Mjolnir, he also loses his ability to fly. He then used these two goats to move faster.
The introduction of Zeus and Olympus
We’ve known that for a while Russell Crowe was cast as Zeus Thor: Love and Thunder. This first trailer takes the first ever look at Olympus and Zeus himself. A first look at the Greek kingdom that will help prepare viewers for the introduction of new gods in the MCU.
Thor: Love and Thunderfrom comics to screen
At the turn of a plan, Thor and Korg confront Falligar’s corpse on a frozen planet. Falligar is a powerful god who has won the Tournament of Immortals many times. The latter was a friend of Thor before being killed by the powerful Gorr (played by Christian Bale in the film). This is about in a plan almost identical to the comics Thor: God of Thunder #3 by Jason Aaron where Thor also discovers Falligar’s corpse. A plan that heralds the destructive power of the film’s antagonist…
New Asgard: an attraction for tourists?
The trailer also allows for a new look at New Asgard, now ruled by Valkyrie. Apparently, Asgard can be a place for earthly tourists, who can now visit the city of the Asgardian gods. Turning an image, we can see several cruise ships in the background.
An inconsistency in Avengers: Infinity War
Found the fans slight inconsistency in this trailer. In fact, remember, at the end of Thor: Ragnarok, Thor lost his eye because of Hela. on Avengers: Infinity War, Rocket Raccoon gave him an artificial eye. However, the latter is not the same color as his natural eye. His original eyes are blue while his artificial eyes are brown in color. However, in the first trailer, Thor is new with his two blue eyes. An unexpected error that will surely be fixed laterthrough the proper script to explain this change, or through a post-production change.
A plan with a deleted character?
Finally, in turn a plan, a small detail catches the attention of the onlookers. In fact, in one picture, we see Thor and Korg smiling and looking up at the sky. If the ground under their feet is reminiscent of the planet Sakaar, there is no way to confirm this theory. But another detail caught the attention of fans. In fact, they believe that the two characters are not centered in the plan. There is a hole on the left of the image. Some viewers thought that one character was deleted from the trailer to keep the element of surprise in his presence in the film.
The strongest hypothesis concerns Hercules. Many fans think that this space is reserved for the latter and that it was removed from the trailer. A process often used by Marvel to maintain certain elements of surprises (such as the trailer for Spider-Man: There’s No Home where Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were deleted) or extended to change some details. It remains to be seen if this hole was really intended for the Greek demigod, for another character, or if it was simply Taika Waititi’s choice to center the plot in this way…
See you next July 13 at the cinema to discover the movie.
