What is the genre of the game?

Storytelling is the foundation of the Stray adventure according to the developers at BlueTwelve studio. Also rely on a good dose of puzzles and interactions of all sorts in the universe. The cat is primarily equipped with a backpack that serves as a shelter for the B-12, a drone that allows it to communicate technologies and to be able to collect collected items such as a flashlight.

Environmental puzzles and action stages require you to use the cat’s natural abilities. In particular, we see a short sequence of chases with strange rats that require testing the hero’s agility. Finally, note that the motion mechanics seem to be somewhat guided, each jump on a new platform tightly framed.

What is the setting of the story?

Stray puts its frame in inspired settings Ancient towns in Hong Kong. We observe that a mysterious language is present in the walls of the narrow alleys. The player should have the opportunity to admire the different panoramas between the lively town centers and even darker corners. The Playstation Blog already introduces us to “Antvillage”, a village built around a large reservoir.

Who are the developers?

Stray is the first game from BlueTwelve Studio, a French studio based in Montpellier. The concept of the game was coined seven years ago today by Koola and Viv, the company’s co-founders. Swann Martin-Raget, producer at BlueTwelve Studio recently spoke about the evolution of their work:

It’s amazing to think that it’s now a perfect game, and players around the world will soon discover and enjoy it. Progress takes time, and we learned a lot along the way. Among the many difficulties and discoveries in this project, creating an interactive chat is clearly the most complicated task!

Stray was lucky to be inspired by the reputation of his publisher Annapurna Interactivebehind the great achievements of the independent scene.

There is no motion capture to animate the cat whose movements are reproduced by the hand of animator Miko. A process already explained on the PlayStation blog:

Miko, our chat host, accepted the challenge and spent a lot of time researching the pictures and videos to use for reference. During this process, we made a strange, but happy discovery: the entire Internet seems to have been invented for the sole purpose of posting photos and videos of cute cats! That’s why we found a lot of good references available.
