This is a first. The Metaverse Summit will be held in Paris from July 16 to 17 at Station F, in conjunction with JDN. Its organizer explains what to expect.
JDN. Why would you want to create an event dedicated to the metaverse?
Yingzi Yuan. Everyone is talking about the metaverse right now, but big companies in all sectors don’t know what strategy to deploy. The primary purpose of this activity is to teach about brands. The second is to unite all the players because the metaverse sector consists of a combination of different technologies and specialists: blockchain, gaming, VR, AR, IA, tools related to the creator’s economy, and etc. We are now witnessing the accumulation of these technologies. It is important to bring players together to facilitate collaboration and thus offer creative experiences to the general public. Our association Metaverse Alliance is organizing this event so that these cross-sector conversations can take place. The Metaverse Summit will be held at Station F on July 16-17, ahead of Ethereum’s ETHcc5 conference scheduled for July 19-22 in Paris.
What will be the main themes of this first edition?
Four areas are defined: social and digital identity, Web3 and decentralization, gaming and interactivity and finally mixed reality and virtual world. We also added conferences related to art, digital fashion, social impact and the legislative aspect. Tickets are purchased through the NFT Ticketing system. Once purchased, this NFT – made by artist ARKE – has other uses as it allows exclusive access to certain events and networking with a network of experts and investors. The “Global Metaverse Startup Competition” could also be one of the other highlights of this event with more than 150 start-ups in the sector having the opportunity to stand in front of a panel of investors.
Who will be the main guests and speakers?
Among the speakers, we were lucky to have Sandy Carter from Unstoppable Domains or Sébastien Borget from The Sandbox, who are more involved with this ecosystem. Sandbox is also one of our main sponsors. There are also representatives of major platforms, such as Roblox, Decentraland, Tik Tok, Epic Games, and more. It should be remembered that metaverses are not just virtual worlds. For example, we also have creators of blockchain gaming platforms who sometimes thrive by integrating interoperable properties within their games or who adopt the game to get models. I think, for example, of the very successful Asia project Seed.
What is your advice for brands that want to create a presence within these virtual universes?
For companies that want to speed up their Web3 transformation processes, the best approach is to collaborate with startups in the sector. This may involve investing or co-creating certain products or experiences with them. It was also the purpose of our start-up competition to make it possible to present these young shoots to the brands. Because of the metaverse sector, it is now impossible to find a company that can do everything. There are actually many ultra-specialized companies: blockchain infrastructure, 3D environment creation, community management, and so on.
How can you take advantage of this event?
The Metaverse Summit, of which JDN is a partner, is the ideal venue to meet all actors in the metaverse sector around the world. In fact, our participants have an international profile coming from Europe, Latin America, Asia, and more. Note that the event will be broadcast live on two metaverses, namely The Sandbox and Decentraland. It has already been confirmed that we will be organizing the next edition of the Metaverse Summit in Paris in 2023. We are also working on a possible Asian winter edition.
