“The Vietnam-Cambodia relationship is a relationship of flesh and blood between two neighboring countries”, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyên Huy Tang told the Vietnamese News Agency (VNA), adding that“no enemy can break the friendship and unity between the two peoples”.

“Recalling the history of the 1960s, when the American imperialists spread war throughout Indochina, the people of Vietnam and Cambodia, with their tradition of unity, fought against the American imperialists”, he remembers.

“On June 24, 1967, President Ho Chi Minh and the Head of State of Cambodia Samdech Norodom Sihanouk decided to lay the foundations for bilateral diplomatic relations”he recalled, adding that the destinies of the two peoples had since been more closely linked and the strength of the two nations was strong enough to fight and defeat their common enemies.

Ambassador Nguyên Huy Tang highlighted the achievements registered in bilateral cooperation over the 55-year relationship, showing that bilateral political relations have seen continuous progress and have indeed played a core role in guiding the overall. the relationship between the two countries.

“Cooperation in the field of defense, security and foreign affairs between the two countries continues to deepen and is one of the most important pillars of Vietnam-Cambodian relations,” he continued.

Bilateral trade is increasing every year

According to the diplomat, much progress has been made on the economic and trade front. Bilateral trade reached USD 130-150 million during 1997-1999 and has grown by 30-40% on an annual average since 2005. It will reach USD 5.32 billion by 2020, to USD 9.54 billion in 2021.

In the first five months of this year, trade stood at USD 5.44 billion, up 19% from the same period last year, and is expected to reach USD 10 billion by 2022.

Vietnam is one of the leading investors in Asia and one of the top five foreign investors in Cambodia, with 188 valid projects amounting to 2.88 billion USD in registered capital.

The two countries also attach importance to cooperation in the areas of culture, education and human resource training. Each year, Vietnam offers hundreds of Cambodian scholarships awarding 35 Vietnam scholarships. Currently there are 2,427 Cambodian students in Vietnam and 100 Vietnamese students in Cambodia.

“With the strict guidance of the leaders of the two countries and the efforts of the relevant organs of the two countries, both sides have completed 84% of the work volume for delimitation and demarcation in common. land boundary “said the ambassador.

On June 20, Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh co-chaired a ceremony to commemorate the 45e anniversary of “Old towards the overthrow of the genocidal regime”.

The Cambodian Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to Vietnam’s leaders and people for their support and contribution to the liberation of Cambodia from the genocidal regime, saying that “The help of the Vietnamese demonstrates the pure and good friendship between the two countries and the two peoples. I believe this relationship will develop and last forever.”
