“On June 24, 1967, President Ho Chi Minh and Cambodian Head of State Samdech Norodom Sihanouk decided to lay the foundations of bilateral diplomatic relations,” he recalled, adding that the fate of the two men has since become closer. involved and the strength of the two countries that strengthened to fight and defeat their common enemies.

Ambassador Nguyên Huy Tang highlighted the achievements registered in bilateral cooperation over the 55-year relationship, showing that bilateral political relations have seen continuous progress and have indeed played a core role in guiding the overall. the relationship between the two countries.

“Cooperation in the field of defense, security and foreign activities between the two countries continues to deepen and is one of the most important pillars of Vietnam-Cambodian relations,” he said for the follow-up.

According to the diplomat, much progress has been made on the economic and trade front. Bilateral trade reached 130 to 150 million dollars during 1997-1999 and increased 30 to 40% on the annual average since 2005. It reached 5.32 billion dollars by 2020, to 9.54 billion in 2021.

In the first five months of this year, trade stood at $ 5.44 billion, up 19% from the same period last year, and is expected to reach $ 10 billion by 2022.

Vietnam is one of the top investors in ASEAN and one of the top five foreign investors in Cambodia, with 188 valid projects totaling $ 2.88 billion in registered capital.

The two countries also attach importance to cooperation in the areas of culture, education and human resource training. Each year, Vietnam offers hundreds of Cambodian scholarships awarding 35 Vietnam scholarships. Currently there are 2,427 Cambodian students in Vietnam and 100 Vietnamese students in Cambodia.
