Infinite available since the very first opus (spin-off, film, etc.), built around a community of loyal fans and not nearly lost, it will continue to thrive with Assassin’s Creed Infinity. Launched in 2021, the next installment is a gaming service – a platform designed to evolve over time. We should know next year at school.

In November 2020, the Assassin’s Creed saga crossed the bar of 155 million copies sold (cumulative). A huge number, making it one of the best -selling of all time.

On the occasion of its fifteenth anniversary, we decided to rank the canonical games, from the best to the worst.

Our ranking of Assassin’s Creed games

1-Assassin’s Creed II (Ezio Auditore trilogy, 2009-2011)

The first Assassin’s Creed a revolutionary concept with an unfinished aftertaste. Its connection, is well baptized Assassin’s Creed II, was able to properly take advantage of all its strengths around the three pillars that still remain today: a completely immersive setting, as faithfully reproduced (Florence, Venice, the Vatican, etc.) ; gameplay that combines secret and action; a ton of things to do. Ubisoft even allowed itself to play out history, echoing events (the Pazzi conspiracy) and inviting certain time figures (Leonardo da Vinci, converted to be an inventor of the assassins service).

Also, when Assassin’s Creed II came out, we still believe in the meta-universe imagined by Ubisoft and expressed around a hero: Desmond Miles, able to bring back the memories of his ancestors thanks to cutting-edge technology (Abstergo). This episode also centers on a charismatic hero: Ezio Auditore is entitled to two more adventures (Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations), comprising a complete trilogy. No other hero has received such extensive treatment.

Playable today at : PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

2 — Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (2018)

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is in Origins of Assassin’s Creed what is it Assassin’s Creed II with Assassin’s Creed. That is: a general and relentless development of firmly established bases. Odyssey increased the possibilities offered by the new generation of licensing formula, inspired by modern RPGs (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt). Some would say it’s no longer Assassin’s Creed, but that is to forget that the essence of the franchise lies first and foremost in its ability to take us on a journey into an ancient time, with a welcome authenticity (here, Ancient Greece). It’s also a real meltdown of everything Ubisoft has thought of in recent years.

Above all, you have to keep going to finish Assassin’s Creed Odysseyfor the inside can confuse you.

Playable today at : PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

3 — Assassin’s Creed Origins (2017)

Origins of Assassin’s Creed is the redemption episode. After years of pulling the strings, at the pace of an ambitious period each year, Ubisoft has hit the wall. It is therefore necessary for the French company to act to restore the image of the strong brand, otherwise it will upset the players. The developers chose a very simple approach: spend their time rethinking the foundations. So we had to wait two years before we played Origins of Assassin’s Creed, which first of all has its beautiful state (Egypt and its magnificent pyramids). He immediately started the real revival, with mechanics looking more on the side of RPGs.

Playable today at : PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

4 — Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (2020)

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

In terms of technical success, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the best. Reasonable, because it is the latest and the first to benefit from the power of the latest consoles (PS5, Xbox Series). However, it is not as convincing asOdyssey and Origins because of a kind of stagnation (the fights remain perfect) and because they are scattered within it. Besides, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla feels like it’s no longer true Assassin’s Creed sometimes, with few elements reminiscent of the meta-universe and lazy writing.

Playable today at : PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

5 — Assassin’s Creed Unity (2014)

We’re probably a little chauvinistic to put up with Assassin’s Creed Unity very high in rank, because it’s a little seesaw opus – one where the feeling of tiredness begins. In the press, its Metacritic mark did not exceed 70 out of 100 (PC), while its predecessor even exceeded 80 (on PC yet). It prevents, Assassin’s Creed Unity remains an achievement in his ability to immerse us in the heart of the French Revolution. And, what could be more fun than walking on the rooftops of Notre-Dame de Paris? Yes, Ubisoft has eyes bigger than its belly Assassin’s Creed Unity, hence the innumerable number of bugs. However, we really want to be chauvinistic.

Playable today at : PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

6 — Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (2013)

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag almost certainly an anomaly of the Assassin’s Creed saga, since it’s a pirate game. You have to pick it up to appreciate it for its fair value, with the game centered on sea combat, the Caribbean ocean (the scenery is absolutely majestic). In atmospheric terms, the golden age of piracy brings an undeniable charm, especially to fans of Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Finally, hero Edward Kenway quickly climbed the podium among the most charismatic characters Ubisoft could think of.

7 — Assassin’s Creed III (2012)

Assassin’s Creed III suffers the goodness of the Ezio Auditore trilogy. If this remains a typically successful experience in 2013, it’s not the one we remember very well in drawing the balance. As a bonus, this is the episode that kills the concept of a Desmond Miles-centric meta-story-the current hero dies in the end (a hell of a twist). Note that we play Connor Kenway, grandson of Edward Kenway, the main character ofAssassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and another ancestor of Desmond Miles. This is when Ubisoft lost us a bit: the fourth installment therefore went back to a farther past than the third, while remaining centered on a current hero who would have been dead (Desmond Miles ).

Playable today at : PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

8 — Assassin’s Creed (2007)

Very cruel first Assassin’s Creed very low in ranking. Without him, Ubisoft would not be where it is today. However, this is ultimately just a draft for the flamboyant Assassin’s Creed II, which is above the recipe with more delicious ingredients. The great concern ofAssassin’s Creed ? More repetitive game, which consists of killing targets by collecting some clues during an investigation. From one purpose to another, we have the impression of always doing the same and yet it is not this sense of freedom that allows us to breathe.

Playable today at : PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

9 — Assassin’s Creed Syndicate (2015)

or Assassin’s Creed Unity the fall of the old formula began, The Assassin’s Creedy Syndicate manages the delivery of the plague. However, he had an argument to make: we were playing twins (a girl, a boy), in a city of London marked by the industrial revolution. We go from one to another depending on the missions. On the other hand, this innovation fails to hide the lack of innovation in the overall structure of the game. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt hope Carried by blood. In short, it’s time to move on.

Playable today at : PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

10 – Assassin’s Creed, the movie (2016)

Undoubtedly, one of the film’s worst adaptations is from a video game saga, in which Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard exchange confusing views of lovers in a despicable photograph. There’s nothing to be saved in this film, which is more seriously going to be a booze. Let’s hope the TV series, planned by Netflix, gives more respect to the world of games.
