Graphics card prices have finally normalized thanks to more supply, lower demand from gamers with money, the suspension of tariffs and the long-awaited collapse of the market. exploitation of cryptocurrencies. You can now find many new graphics cards at or near MSRP. Likewise, the aforementioned conditions also set the used graphics card market for attractive prices once again.
With that statement, however, comes a slight caveat, because popular second-hand markets like eBay seem chaotic at first glance. There are many more retailers trying to sell new and used graphics cards at exorbitant prices. Some are trying to sell new cards, unaware that market conditions are very different than in 2021. Others, perhaps, have bought their cards at large markups and are now desperate to minimize losses. .
Looking at Newegg pricing for new graphics cards can easily establish a baseline for what you should pay for a particular model. We use this data to target the right prices in used graphics card markets such as eBay and Facebook Marketplace. Of course, there are bargains to be found.
Mining Revenue Rises
The latest price change on used graphics cards is likely to be attributed to miners selling their rigs, and there have been several announcements suggesting that. On a quick look at eBay, we found several listings where mining is the main purpose of graphics cards. Other vendors may be using their cards for the same purpose, but not as daring to display their mining rigs or card sets in ads.
Some vendors seem to sell cards that are primarily used for gaming or productivity. Since the next generation of graphics cards is likely a few more months away, it’s normal to see them. End users often sell their cards to use the money for new purchases. Some may just rise to a higher level of performance.
Either way, there are some potential bargains if you filter the ads. Our overall conclusion is that many used cards are now sold for MSRP. But there are buy-it-now offers and auctions that are very low in MSRP for almost all models. One trend we have noticed is that higher level cards are declining significantly. This is especially true for the Nvidia RTX 3080 12GB, 3080 Ti, and 3090. You can also find decent deals on the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and 6900 XT.
The price split also collapsed for all models, including Nvidia’s previously coveted RTX 30 Series FE cards. Whether you want to get a bargain on an FE card or a card with a factory overclock and large heatsink, the second -hand market is one way to do it.
A Quick Look At Used Graphics Card Prices
We have collected some current data on some of the most popular graphics cards for PC gaming. We used Newegg as a benchmark and filtered the main listings from eBay, but we also checked the US listings on the Facebook Marketplace and confirmed similar prices.
We’ll start with the RTX 30 series on Nvidia. As in the new market, the RTX 3060 and 3060 Ti continue to have values above the MSRP. Fortunately, this is the main exception to fluctuating prices. You can bid for something just below the MSRP, and there are some buy-it-now lists at or near the MSRP. There’s better value at higher performance levels, so you’ll want to put a little more money in for an RTX 3070.
There are many second -hand options for RTX 3070s close to or just above the $ 500 MSRP on eBay. If you make an offer, you can get something below the MSRP. In addition, you can find prices below the MSRP in local online markets. However, you can only get a new model of Gigabyte Gaming OC for $ 599 from Newegg.
This is the same case with the RTX 3080, with many options listed at or almost $ 100 above the $ 699 MSRP. If you go the auction route, you can get one for $ 50-100 as little. Prices in local markets are only above or below the MSRP, which are sometimes good bargains.
Things are interesting above the RTX 3080 price bracket. The RTX 3080 12GB, 3080 Ti, and RTX 3090 are now sold very well below the MSRP, whether used or new. Examples we found include an RTX 3090 that sold for $ 1200, an RTX 3080 Ti that sold for $ 899, and more. However, for a little extra money you can get a new card with the same performance. An example is this MSI RTX 3080 10GB which is $ 790.
As for AMD, the second-hand market is surprisingly disappointing. We saw a lot of results for the 6700 XT between $ 420 and $ 450. Considering you can get an MSI 6700 XT Mech for $ 485 (only $ 5 more than the MSRP), this is probably the best option. For the 6800 XT, buy-it-now prices aren’t special and start at nearly $ 700. If you go the auction route, the price will only go down by about $ 50.
Your best bet is to buy a new one for AMD. Two better sales we found for a $ 290 Sapphire Pulse 6600 and a $ 890 MSI Gaming X Trio 6900 XT.
Do not be deceived
Be sure to weigh the risks of buying a used graphics card versus a new one. One of the best things to do is find a local listing where the seller can show you that the card is still inside. Be sure to check it to make sure it is not damaged or worn. If you shop online, consider requesting a video of how it works, or at least ensure the seller’s reputation.
Finally, see if you can get a copy of the original receipt or if there is a way to register the card with the manufacturer when you get it to make sure the original warranty applies to you. Graphics cards are guaranteed for at least two years (three years for some manufacturers) if purchased new.
Lastly, make sure the price of the used graphics card you are considering is low enough than a newer model. Prices keep going down every week, sometimes every day.
