The City of Nice and Université Côte d’Azur have decided to open their amphitheaters to people aged 55 and over, free of charge. A shocking achievement, according to the graduates.

There was a lot of emotion on Monday at Nice Law School. Several dozen seniors – people aged 55 and over – received an award certificate, closing one year of schooling. The document was delivered to them by the president of the Université Côte d’Azur, Jeanick Brisswalter, and the dean of the law school (also a municipal councilor in charge of higher education, research and continuing education), Xavier Tower. “About students following an initial course”emphasizes the first.

There is no age to learn

Last year, each student chose one subject from the 250 offered. Art, literature, law, sociology, biology… the choice is huge. Faced with the success of this pilot program, Jeanick Brisswalter announced the opening of 100 more for the next school year. Goal: to spread the knowledge of the university to as many people as possible. “Especially for those who have time”he didn’t smile. “And you may want to continue these studies”Xavier Latour continued.

Second interest: not to get lost in the pace of rapid social change. “ Retirement is a relatively long and long vacation. We have to keep busy, to gain new knowledge and teach the youngest, thanks to our experience ”, punctuated Françoise Monier, deputy mayor of Nice, delegate for intergenerational and seniors. Comments accompanied by a general agreement.

“I chose this material because of taste and interest. In addition to interest, because there are 1.4 billion Chinese. So 1.4 billion potential speakers. That’s a lot of people to talk to. By taste, because I make tai -chi, a Chinese training gymnastics.I want to know and understand the traditional texts related to it.It will be interesting to understand Chinese culture and the way of thinking about it through language.

Next year, I would really like to pursue bachelor’s degree courses at the university. When I was young, I believed I could learn Sanskrit [une langue indienne, ndlr] when retired. Looking at my grammar, I ran away. Chinese is a start. “I chose this material because of taste and interest. In addition to interest, because there are 1.4 billion Chinese.
