Mr & Mrs Bun are still on top of Strasbourg burgers

In Strasbourg, we love burgers, and every corner of the city has its own representative of the thing. Fat, organic, vegetable, very fat and inorganic: there are plenty of burgers available with all the sauces, and that doesn’t bother us. But here in our city, a lot of addresses just a moment, they settle down right away. Mr & Mrs Bun are not one of them. Set at 2016 rue du 22 Novembre, then taken down in early 2020, the small sandwich shop is out of order. Even better, our couple of days changed to become an important Strasbourg address, probably the one that offers the most value for money in town. Today, we want to go behind the stove to introduce you to the couple who have made us happy for two years: Sarah and Serge, a duo that can warm your heart when you have a bad day.

Mr & Mrs Bun is a story of burgers, love, good products and hard work. Made in 2016 by Ophélie, who has been operating it for 4 years, the success of this fast-food was very quick there, and the people of Strasbourg were quickly convinced, especially with the almost unbeatable amount of money at this independent fast-food restaurant (Hi Five Guys, take it easy). But in 2020, a few days before being confined, the store changed hands. From now on, Mr and Ms Buns, it’s Sarah 52, and Serge 57, an inseparable and inspiring couple, who take over the restaurant’s rent.. Their challenge? Develop this small restaurant where the locals are very involved and offer better quality products. Now, the stakes are more than the win, and it’s more than that: Serge and Sarah enjoy doing what they want, just because they’re together (Sarah says). We went behind the stove to chat with Mr and Mrs.

Sarah and Serge, many years of work and new challenge

Recently grandparents and parents of 4 children, our day couple had decades to bottle up their credit. From traditional catering, they also run the restaurant L’Altenberg, a winstub located in Bergheim (now L’Animus). On a day of service like any other, a guy will enter the restaurant and make them an interesting offer to pick up. The business that worked wonderfully sold, the Altenberg adventure is over. But Serge and Sarah are not finished with the challenges. Their new idea? Get out of the countryside, go to town and make a tea room with only fresh produce and homemade pastries. A very simple place where they can have fun and have fun without working 70 hours a week. And then one day in 2019, as the couple were wandering around the city looking for a new location for their project, they came across this name: Mr & Mrs Bun. Even if they don’t immediately think about it, they will taste the product, then they will say to themselves “Mr & Mrs Bun, we are done, it was made for us, how are we going to get started”?

And that’s what they did. Their only desire, other than challenge and innovation, is the desire to be together, and Sarah speaks best about it: “I can tell you frankly, we could have done everything, but as long as we are together, we are happy. What we liked about this project was the challenge, but even if we leave on our arrival, for now, we’re having fun and we’re proud of what we’re doing. We love the product, we love the city, we’re happy to be able to hold this big business and offer a top-of-the-range burger, and for all of that, we work and we keep going every morning. »

Homemade burgers dislocated

Every morning, our day couple would get up at 6 a.m. until offers a top-of-the-range burger consisting of an artisanal baker’s bun well brioche and well browned (the secret is well kept), fresh 100% French butcher’s meat, homemade sauce and very fresh vegetables work on site. Every day things come and go almost as fast as they arrive. Every week, 7 days a week, they offer at least 7 different recipes. The burger of the month (now in Bibeleskæs with bear garlic Ribeaupierre cheese), the blue burger and its fourme d’Ambert, the bacon cheese burger or the hot chilli burger, have something for everyone and the ratio to quality to price is displaced. And if Monsieur is always behind the stove, accompanied by Valentin (the king of the plate), Madame, he is multi-tasking and above all: she prepares desserts like him homemade cheesecake.

You see, we’re under the spell, not just of the burgers that the people of Strasbourg are so familiar with. (personally shipped its pallets), but also this unexpected couple holding home and working tirelessly without making a fuss by offering a QUA-LI-TÉ product. On an already pedestrianized street, they started their third year of activity with a smile and desire, always with a love of a job well done and a panache we’re not used to seeing.
