Welcome to Enclos du Perchet, in the middle of the Dirac forest. 80 acres. Lots of or less thick woods, pastures, barren clears of almost impassable scrub, hilly trails, a wide swamp. A completely private green paradise turned into a hunting reserve. “You have to say ‘ hunting park ‘ », corrected the owner of the place, 62, son of Ronsenac. This former carpenter is the craftsman of this titanic project, unique to Charente, which was built with all due diligence over three years.

“Le Perchet is, simply put, a great gym for dogs. People come here to trust their animal, train it, teach it how to track it. Here, you enter without a gun. , no cartons. We didn’t kill anything “, summarizes, happily, Denis Joseph, wandering around his property looking for the client of the day and his package. They are “in place” behind the trees. On the lookout for the game, the landowner selected and introduced it. “There are nine deer, five wild boars, five or six hare”he listed when to see wild animals in the sky, at the top of the copse, and cross the pasture at the speed of light. “Look there, pig. And a deer on the other side, he pointed out. Afterwards, the unpleasant sound of the hunter’s horn in their paths disturbed the calm of the forest. This is prolonged by the constant barking of dogs. Which in turn shows the edge.

It is almost in the public interest to regulate a species with a lot of damage.

Other ideas for improving park activity

Seven French Bruno Saint -Huberts – impossible dogs from Savoie – Diracois Pierre -Henri Moreau fell, sighing, full of drool. To chase the pig wild but especially not one. “We chose to train our dogs in wild boars. I came here for that.” explains the hunter, loving a variety “more resilient and more natural to track this type of game”. “What we do is mostly public utility. We are regulating a species that is very harmful, ” added Régis Moreau, Pierre-Henri’s father, who posted away from the pack, in the guard position.

The advantage of Denis Joseph’s hunting park, Moreaus ’protection, is that a hunter who knows how to hunt can train his dogs and teach his puppies all year round. Private property makes it possible to avoid opening and closing dates. That doesn’t mean that here, in a vacuum, there is no valid law. The regulations are particularly strict: therefore it is necessary that the fence meets certain standards, the dwelling house of the owner of the place must be imperatively located within the enclosure of the park, killing is prohibited during and after beats. If these conditions are not met, the enclosure will not obtain official approval.

“My job isn’t just to make the site available to customers (for 50 € for half the day, editor’s note). I am also there to help hunters who want to improve the skills of dogs, to advise them », Denis Joseph added. His wife, Marie-Noëlle, 56, has other ideas in mind to promote the activity without supporting the couple. This hunting park, because it is closed and the animals that live in it are listed, can also be a little paradise for amusement clubs, why not school. For the first time at the end of the month, a “Village festival” also organized there (see box). “There’s a plant with a lot of diversity, supports Denis Joseph by presenting the many varieties available. We can go there to find animal tracks ». And enjoyed passing the twenty dogs of the Joseph family that had gathered on the ground.

Repro CL

To meet this new challenge, the reluctant remain convinced. Especially those who appear to be environmentalists. Denis Joseph was able to measure this when he moved to Charente Nature, which was challenged by a site that looked like a reserve, protesting against the project. “We are also real ecologists”he defended, remembering once again that we would not kill Perchet. “Except for wild pigs when they are too big, too old and can be aggressive”. Gérard, a walker, can attest that those now living in the Dirac forest are less harmful. While walking to the other side of the fence a few days later, he fed one of the specimens, while the other fed the pet.

A rural celebration on June 26th

The event was orchestrated by FACCC 16, the Federation of Associations of Hound Hunters in Charente. For the first time, on June 26, Enclos du Perchet hosted a “rural celebration”. In the program, in the ring, the presentation of several packages. About fifty teams of 5 to 25 dogs. Both pointers and dogs. Hunting and Fishing Federations will also spend the day at the hunting park to present their activities. There is also on site, just to attract a family audience, especially hunting enthusiasts, a farmers market and a village of artisans. “All local actors will be represented”, announced Florian Léger, the president of FACCC16.
