F1 for everyone

As we have seen recently, F1 has become more popular than ever and has continued to attract new audiences over the past few years. The 2021 season and the result of the Abu Dhabi championship in particular drew more than 100 million spectators around the world.

This enthusiasm is primarily due to the variety of broadcasters who have made it a point of honor to show us the race in every detail. The F1 22 is no exception to the rule and continues, too, to offer a real broadcast, as if you were in front of your television. Many new features will further enhance this year’s immersion with, for example, new cutscenes animating the Grands Prix.

For France, it was clear that Julien Fébreau was taking care of the comments while Natalie Pinkham, Sascha Roos and Alex Jacques also joined the international cast. During the presentation of the game which we attended, we also noticed that Jacques Villeneuve was added to the game, but it was not intended for the French market.

Everything has been done again to strengthen the immersion during the races and to help neophytes enjoy all the excitement of a GP weekend. For example, it is now possible to enjoy the formation lap as if it were broadcast on TV, without having to touch the controller. This option extends to the Safety Car stages as well as the pit stop.

Always with the goal of supporting new players as much as possible, this year we noticed the arrival of an adaptive AI that adjusts to the real time of our show. In general, if we drop, he will see his run adjust to allow us to increase the run and vice versa. This is clearly an option that can be deactivated to take advantage of opponents with classic behavior. The latter is also very aggressive at the moment.

But also (and above all) for enthusiasts

Purists can be assured, if the studio is working to make the races more exciting for newcomers, many additions aimed at strengthening player control are also available. Upon completion of the forming lap, which is always completed in full, it is now possible to place your car yourself on the grid. This allows for example the adoption of an offensive or defensive posture at the start.

Manual pit stops are also introduced where you have to be careful when entering the pit. In practice, it is only necessary to hold a key to enter the garage; good reactive will affect the time you stop. Very nice, but it can be deepened and extended, especially up to the braking stage.

The most observant will notice the updating of circuits in Melbourne, Catalunya and Abu Dhabi that have gone through some changes this year. Some of the tracks available in our build are quite successful and quite faithful to the real tracks. The Miami Grand Prix, which just ended, allowed us to see that the work was meticulous. The new rules for the 2022 season will be accessible, in particular, to Sprint races focusing on the Imola, Spielberg and Sao Paulo Grands Prix.

Finally, it is announced that a new race engineer will emerge to replace the famous Jeff. Marc Priestley, McLaren engineer, put his voice and his service skills into the game. This new engineer, on the other hand, seems to be reserved for Anglo-Saxon markets, as we have not noticed any change in French, either in dialogues or in voice.

Living the life of a pilot

The big innovation of this opus is the introduction of the F1 Life mode. Exit the Breaking Point narrative adventure of F1 21, this new unique game mode should allow you to immerse yourself in the life of a driver and offer the possibility to drive supercars or personalize your avatar using clothes and various accessories, such as watches. glasses.

F1 Life takes place in a central multiplayer hub that can also be customized to your liking. Supercars have new events and other challenges associated with career mode; we speak for example of drift or duels. However, they can also be driven against the clock.

Customization will also extend the My Team mode which hosts a livery editor as well as new options. It is also possible to choose the hierarchical place of his team (behind the grid, midfield or headliner), which greatly influences the budget. The racing mode has also undergone some changes, but unfortunately we didn’t have a chance to try it out.

Our impressions of My Team and the F1 Life mode will also have to wait for the final test. Our main fear is that obviously the latter will serve as an excuse to sell cosmetics and other things in abundance.

Overall, we seem to be heading for another strong, but somewhat clever, opus. Major changes to rules and vehicles are not yet clearly controller in hand. Keep in mind that we have a chance to try out a title that is still in development and that the release of the final game is scheduled for July 1st.
