The PlayStation had a pretty quiet April, all things considered. Without a lot of game releases and studio acquisitions, some of the most notable news this month came when it invested more in Epic Games and Metaverse. Rumors have also shown that the PlayStation is testing the possibility of selling in-game ads, and most people greeted this news with as much enthusiasm as expected.
Pain in my hearing about the metaverse. You might be sick of hearing about Metaverse. The world is tired of hearing about the Metaverse. But unfortunately, the Metaverse is here to stay. That means we’re seeing video game companies spend more money investing in it, like the PlayStation did with Epic Games.
With this third round of investments, PlayStation recently invested $ 1 billion in the metaverse and “the development of new digital experiences for fans”. Please try to control your excitement. But really, though, it makes sense to own Bungie’s PlayStation and its growing live vector service efforts. In addition, the widespread hit Epic Fortnite is currently the closest game to a true metaverse.
This news came just days after Epic Games introduced Unreal Engine 5, nearly two years after its first announcement in 2020. Going forward, many developers plan to use Unreal Engine 5 in their own proprietary technology, such as CD Projekt RED, which recently announced that the next Witcher game will be built on Unreal Engine. Crystal Dynamics has also announced that the next Tomb Raider game is also in the works in Unreal Engine 5.
Is the PlayStation about to start selling in-game ads?
Because the future is bleak, the PlayStation may start selling in-game ads, a move that could mimic a feature reportedly in Microsoft’s works for the Xbox. The new report, from Business Insider, cites three people familiar with the plans as saying Sony has already started testing adtech partners. It will supposedly help pave the way for free-to-play developers to monetize their games more effectively, and is expected to launch by the end of the year.
In person? I hate that. No thanks. Pahawa. I no longer need publicity in my life. The games are already over $ 70, and the new console costs at least $ 400. No. As such, we need to see how it all goes, or if it can be something to worry about in the beginning.
PlayStation Studios has won six BAFTA Awards
The 18th BAFTA Games Awards saw PlayStation Studios win six titles for its work on Returnal and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Returnal won Best Game, Audio Direction, Music, and Performer in a Leading Role with Jane Perry’s performance as Selene. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart also won awards for Animation and Technical Achievement. All in all, it was a good night for PlayStation games.
While there are many award shows throughout the year and the PlayStation will undoubtedly win more, BAFTAs have a level of prestige that others don’t. It’s nice to see PlayStation Studios being recognized again for their work.
The PlayStation Plus upgrade is set for June
PlayStation revealed plans to overhaul the PlayStation Plus last month with a tentative schedule for summer 2022. The company is now giving target dates on which players can expect the overhaul to take effect. from Sony:
- Asian markets (excluding Japan) – target from May 23, 2022
- Japan – June 1, 2022 target
- Americas – targeted June 13, 2022
- Europe – targeted June 22, 2022
PlayStation has also announced the expansion of its cloud streaming access to include Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. As streaming has become more and more important, I’m excited to see Sony stepping up its efforts to make it even faster.
According to a report from Game Developer, PlayStation is also reportedly asking some developers to offer a limited 2-hour trial of their games to PlayStation Plus Premium members. Sony will take care of doing the scheduled tests for developers, and they will only be available to developers whose games cost more than $ 34 wholesale.
And if you happen to get memberships before the June change in hopes of saving a little money, you’re out of luck. Sony quietly disabled membership stacking before the change. It’s understandable that Sony doesn’t want people to rack up a 10-year membership at a time, but surprisingly the company didn’t make it public. However, the PlayStation Plus FAQ has been quietly updated.
The rest of the year can be… interesting
Even if E3 is canceled, we are preparing for the E3 season. The summer is sure to be full of big game announcements and showcases thanks to Summer Games Fest and unique showcases by publishers. With God of War Ragnarok apparently coming out later this year, we may see it in action soon. I’m hoping for some surprises in the coming months, and since the rest of this year’s PlayStation game is pretty barren, I’m excited to see what’s next.
