The framework agreement signed in 2007 with FFE has now been strengthened by signing the launch of Class’Echecs and FFE will also sign a joint agreement with the two public school sports federations, USEP and UNSS.

With 5 million practitioners in France, chess is truly one of the historic disciplines that has experienced a change in popularity in recent years. The explosion of online practice during the 2020 incarceration, combined with the broadcast of the series Le Jeu de la Dame on Netflix, had an immediate impact on the number of licensees.

In December 2021, FFE recorded 42,000 registrants, a record for this period. The discovery or rediscovery of the game of chess has become a sports practice in clubs. The performances of the French team at the international level also contributed to the enthusiasm of the public.

The introduction of the game of chess in the school has found a particular buzz among the educational materials put on the occasion of the Mathematics Week which will take place from March 7 to 14, 2022 under the theme “Mathematics in shape (s))” as this game. has become an educational tool for young people.

By mobilizing logic, strategy, strength and capacity for abstraction, while facilitating the learning of citizenship by respecting rules and others, the game of chess falls within the recommendations of the TOROSSIAN-VILLANI report and as part of Mathematics Strategy.

Practiced from an early age, it contributes to personality building by stimulating attention, imagination, anticipation, judgment and self -confidence. It also finds its full place in the context of school sport because it embodies a cultural element that has an educational, social and public health role and that it carries with fair values. opportunity. . In addition, the renewed partnership is particularly concerned with students in the education network priorities and in the vocational stream who have school difficulties, especially in the field of mathematics.

By aiming to introduce 250,000 elementary school children in 3 years, the Class’Echecs program is taking a new step. School teachers who volunteer for the program will have access to free training on the m@gistère platform and, at the same time, 5,000 chessboards will be distributed to 500 schools from the first year of the partnership.

The free system was made possible due to the financial and material support provided by Crédit Mutuel Enseignant and the Échiquier de la Réussite. USEP will ensure practical continuity by organizing inter-class and inter-school meetings. The research laboratory will study the impact of classes from the first year.

Hiring the public service delegation will also provide a concrete way for FFE to strengthen its actions on two key axes in each sports federation:

  • sports performance with the federal performance project: a performance plan for French teams today and tomorrow;
  • social performance by implementing the national strategy of FFE which includes combating sport violence, sport health, inclusion, disability, international influence …

Resources available to the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Agency will be financial, human, and material for top athletes.

Actions taken pursuant to this agreement should be simultaneously monitored by MENJS and by representatives of the federations that have signed it.
