In 2018, Xiaomi hit hard with the first Pocophone – then renamed Poco – in its history. At the time, the Chinese brand distinguished itself with very good value for money, but most of all, the show was put at the heart of the details. The idea: to offer a cheap, but very powerful smartphone.

A few years ago, the Poco entity took its place in the mobile device landscape. And this year 2022, the manufacturer is logically back in charge with a new model called the Poco F4 GT. This is an upmarket move, as the phone is priced from 599 euros, when the brand was used to lower prices.

High in line at the show

The 600 euro bar can mark the symbolic level in the middle to the top of the range. At this price, expectations should be much higher in terms of characteristics. And that’s good, Xiaomi puts the package on a few components, starting with the processor and fast charging.

This Poco F4 GT is actually equipped with the latest generation chip from Qualcomm, the famous Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The idea is to cater to inveterate gamers and users who are thirsty for high-flying performance. With it, daily tasks and resource-intensive 3D games should be managed without much difficulty.

On the fast charging side, the Poco opted for a 120 W block capable of recharging the 4700 mAh battery in 17 minutes. Very short time we observed and tested the Xiaomi 11T Pro. Note that the charger is actually supplied in the box – this is no longer the case with all manufacturers.

Smart charging

The manufacturer also mentioned the Adaptive Charge feature, “which prevents the battery from overcharging to the critical 80% -100% charge range overnight“, we explained.

For the rest of the technical sheet, the Poco F4 GT offers all the classics for its price range. To find out:

  • Screen: 6.67 inches, AMOLED, HDR10+
  • Refresh rate: 120Hz
  • Definition: FHD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels)
  • Gorilla Glass Victus
  • Software: MIUI 13 under Android 12
  • Connectivity: 5G, Bluetooth 5.2, WiFi 6E, NFC
  • Camera:
    • 64-megapixel main sensor (f/1.9);
    • 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (f/2.2)
    • 2-megapixel (f/2.4) macro sensor
    • 20-megapixel (f/2.2) selfie sensor

It’s worth remembering one thing: the Poco range isn’t the most famous when it comes to photos. At a tariff position of 600 euro minimum, however, we expect an increase in power in this area. The camera is often an important criterion: having a hole in it can deter some people.

A great phone

In terms of weight and dimensions, this Poco F4 GT is worthy of a Poco phone: you will face a relatively large and heavy device, with a thickness of 8.5 mm and weight -aton of 210 grams. The device finally embeds a “magnetic trigger, which can withstand 1.5 million pressures”, which has been “tested in more than 100 popular games”.
