The rumors and leaks surrounding the Xiaomi 12 Ultra allow us to start looking at the upcoming ultra premium smartphone. Release date, price, design, photo module … Our recap.
The Xiaomi 12 is gone, or almost. There will be the Xiaomi 12, 12 Pro, 12X and maybe soon a 12 Lite, but the Chinese manufacturer has yet to reveal the pinnacle of its range: the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. However, rumors about him have already begun to gather. We took stock.
Design: three backs for more options
The various elements should make the Xiaomi 12 Ultra strong to stand out in the crowd of high-end smartphones. The first is also the most visible: like the Mi 11 Ultra, Xiaomi has chosen to install a completely giant photo block on the back of its phone, according to the Dutch site. Let’s Go Digital, with Technizo Concept doing a lot of 3D rendering for the occasion. This design is to replace the more rectangular look of the 2021 block, with an integrated screen, for something round. In the middle, we will find the main photo module with all the secondary modules arranged in a circle around it.
However, the more recent leak from the sometimes conflicting leaker Digital Chat Station indicates that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra may once again opt for a rectangular design. So the case has not yet been fully heard.
Second famous point, at this time almost certain, a Leica logo should be placed like a sticker on the back of the phone, to underline the association assigned by the photo specialist.
Last point of variation for the back of the phone: it can come in three different versions, for many materials. Obviously, you can get a Xiaomi 12 Ultra with a ceramic back, one with glasses on the back and the last one with a “vegan” leather back (probably plastic therefore). A great customization option for a phone that is sure to exceed the 1000 euro budget.
200 megapixel sensor or not
With such a photo block, it’s no surprise that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra relies heavily on photography. A partnership with Leica could be signed to compete with other Chinese brands, such as OnePlus and Oppo partnering with Hasselblad or Zeiss’s Vivo. In fact, we don’t yet know what this partnership is. Often, photo specialist brands bring their color science as well as a set of filters to use in your shots.
We will move on to the hardware, and especially the main photo module. The case is debated. Other drops mention the presence of a 50-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GN5 sensor, but older drops previously mentioned a more sophisticated 192-pixel sensor, but also more complicated to integrate.

For the rest of the photo configuration, we expect an ultra wide angle and an X5 telephoto lens with the same 48 megapixel sensor. The arrival of a second X10 telephoto lens for example, to better compete with the Galaxy S22 Ultra and Huawei P50 Pro, so it doesn’t seem immediate.
A Snapdragon and a QHD+ screen
Aside from the photo and design, little information has been leaked about this phone regarding its pure and hard technical data sheet. Some hallway noise is still raging with the arrival of Qualcomm’s new SoC, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. On paper, it has the advantage of being sculpted by TSMC, which will allow it to better control temperature rise.
In terms of RAM, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra should align with the standards implemented in 12 GB or 16 GB. As for storage, keep in mind that last year, only the 256 GB version was released in France. Xiaomi may be able to make this option again, as some users capable of such a device will opt for a 128 GB version.
Let’s end the screen. There is also, even if there is no leak that allows us to develop it with greater certainty, the industry standards are now very clear for the long end: an Oled panel must be in the program, with meaning of QHD + and a 120 Hz refresh rate for fluidity. . The size of the side though, the mystery remains. Xiaomi has actually taken many of its models into the 12 range. It remains to be seen if the 12 Ultra will follow.
Finally, Xiaomi is expected to renew its partnership with Harman Kardon for the sound part.
The price and release date of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra
The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is expected to be unveiled in June in China. We will probably wait a few more weeks before it appears in our green pasture.
In terms of price, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra can be negotiated to be more expensive than the Mi 11 Ultra, sold for 1200 euros when it was released. In fact, the Xiaomi 12 Pro was released for 1100 euros. A walk of 100 euros between the two is therefore as good.
