TCL C93: more than a thousand Mini-Led zones, a peak of 2000 cd/m² and a Dolby Atmos sound system

The TCL C935: TCL’s tallest Ultra HD model for 2022.

The TCL C935: TCL’s tallest Ultra HD model for 2022.

TCL’s flagship model in 2022 is the C935 television which will be available in 65 and 75 inch versions, i.e. 165 and 190 cm respectively. This Ultra HD television features the manufacturer’s most advanced Mini-Led backlighting system with an announced thickness of only 5 mm. The TCL 75C935 thus has tens of thousands of Mini-LEDs operated in 1920 different zones. The TCL 65C935 – 65 inches – is content with 1080 zones. TCL is working on the form of light emitted by Mini-Leds to reduce overflow. Already equipped with a Mini-Led system, last year’s TCL 65C825 almost didn’t bloom. So it is believed that the C935 should perform better this year. The handling of Mini-LEDs is now available in 16 bits, i.e. 6536 different power levels, to allow better backlighting accuracy. TCL announces peak brightness of up to 2000 cd/m². Once again, it is better than last year’s TCL 65C825 content at a peak of 932 cd/m².

The TCL C93 has four HDMI 2.1 ports that support 4K/120 Hz, VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode). Nothing new, but always better if all four inputs are compatible with HDMI 2.1. TCL also announced support for a native frequency of 144 Hz for this C93 as well as the C83 and C73. Support for 144 Hz is only of interest for PC gaming because this frequency is not yet supported on game consoles. The HDMI 2.1 ports therefore support a 144 Hz VRR Ultra HD signal from a PC with the latest generation graphics card (HDMI 2.1).

The speakers fire up the ceiling to better reproduce Dolby Atmos effects. We also saw the subwoofer in the middle.

This TCL 65/75C935 television also stands out from the competition with the combination of a Dolby Atmos 2.1.2 audio system consisting of two speakers in the front, a subwoofer in the rear and two speakers placed in the rear. on the panel and pointed at the ceiling to create a spatial effect. required for proper copying of Dolby Atmos effects. This system is already available on some Panasonic (TX-65JZ2000) and high-end Samsung televisions. This TV is also equipped with an anti-reflective filter that is advertised efficiently, with no additional details.

For others, we found the Google TV system to have a built-in interface, two remote controls, one of which has a built-in microphone, a microphone integrated into the television for hands-free control without ‘y touch remote control, a new one. Game menu Master for features related to video games, support for webcams, support for all HDR formats (HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision) and more interestingly, a central stand adjustable to more or less 3 cm in length to be able to place a sound bar under the slab.

The TCL 65C935 will be released in April at a price of almost € 1900 while the 75-inch model-the TCL 75C935-will be priced at € 2800, making them compete with the latest LG 65C2 and 77C2 televisions on sale. 2700 and 3800 € each. On the other hand, as usual, last year’s models were always more attractive: the LG 65C1 was shown for 1600 € while the latest copies of the LG 77C1 were for less than 2600 €.

TCL C83: tiny little Mini-Led

TCL 65C835: still available in Mini-Leds, but less powerful and thicker.

TCL 65C835: still available in Mini-Leds, but less powerful and thicker.

The TCL C83 has a more classic Mini-Led backlight system with a thickness of 15 mm. TCL does not announce the exact number of zones in this model, but it should not exceed a few hundred zones (compare to a thousand for the C93). The audio system is also more classic with two speakers placed under the slab and pointed to the TV cabinet in conjunction with a subwoofer in the rear. We have to lose a little bit of accuracy compared to the front speakers of the C935 and of course, the C85 is missing the speakers dedicated to Dolby Atmos. The maximum brightness of this model should be close to what was found on last year’s C825, about 1000 cd/m².

For others, the TCL C83 may be the same as the C93. Four HDMI 2.1 4K120, VRR, ALLM ports are identical, 144 Hz compatibility is included, Google TV is available, as well as two remote controls, one of which has a microphone, the microphone is integrated with the television for hands-free control, the Game Master menu and the central foot with two height positions (± 3 cm).

The C83 television is available in 55, 65 and 75 inch versions under the references 55C835, 65C835 and 75C835 at respective prices of 1300, 1500 and 2300 €.

TCL C73: same thing without the Mini-Leds

TCL 65C735: still 144 Hz, but with a classic Direct-Led backlighting system.

TCL 65C735: still 144 Hz, but with a classic Direct-Led backlighting system.

The TCL C73 television retains the same Ultra HD 144 Hz panel, the same electronics and the same appliances as the C83, but is content with a classic Direct-Led backlighting system combined with multiple LEDs behind the screen. always on (no zone management like a Full Led system). This model should replace the TCL 55C728 from 2021, a model we have tested and that will be very interesting for players on a tight budget.

The TCL C73 can be used from 43 to 75 inches for a price from 500 to 1400 €. The TCL 55C735, for example, will sell for almost € 800 and it should be easy to see a reduction in its price, which could make it a good quality/performance/price ratio.

TCL C63: we go to 50 Hz

The TCL 55C635 with its 5 Hz panel.

The TCL 55C635 with its 5 Hz panel.

The TCL C63, which replaces the TCL C725 we tested, is satisfied with a more classic 50/60 Hz panel in addition to the Direct Led backlighting system. It’s a standard Ultra HD television and its only argument remains the built-in microphone, which is rare at this price level.

The TCL C63 is available in 43, 50, 55 and 65 inches at respective prices of 500, 600, 650 and 900 €.
